THE "CHIADO"
Chiado is one of the most iconic and traditional parts of the city of Lisbon, located just between Bairro Alto and Baixa-Chiado.

In 1856, with the creation of the literary guild, a club of intellectuals of the time, Chiado became the centre of Portuguese Romanticism and an obligatory passage point for anyone who wanted to be known in the city.

Chiado is the city's upscale shopping neighbourhood: it is almost entirely dedicated to retail therapy, selling everything from designer clothing, to music. The restaurants are usually quite good and the cafés are popular and constantly busy: try the historical Brasileira café or, on a totally different note, the Santini ice-cream parlour.

Today Chiado has become an important trading and fashion centre of Lisbon, one of the most cosmopolitan and bustling cities of Portugal, hosting numerous events like the iconic Vogue Fashion's Night Out and other fashion and nightlife events.
